Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park Review

Posted on September 24, 2018October 2, 2018

We spent a week in Florida a few years ago, and drove to Tampa on two separate occasions – once to see Busch Gardens, and the other to see the zoo. We wish we would have spent two days at the zoo instead! This zoo is a hidden gem for out of town visitors. The interactions and proximity you’re able to have with the animals is incredible. We’re saving time in our schedule for the zoo on our next visit to Florida!

Highlights:

  • Africa – LOVED the Africa exhibit! Giraffe feeding, a savanna where they can roam, and a free safari ride to get a better view of the exhibit!
  • Florida Animals – maybe it’s because we’re from Chicago, but we thoroughly enjoyed the Florida section, including Florida panthers, alligators, and my wife’s favorite – manatees! This zoo does a lot by way of manatee rehabilitation
  • Sting Ray touch tank – typically we see sting rays in temporary homes, so seeing them down in Florida was very nice – they were more interactive than we were used to!
  • Australia – an area to walk among the wallabies, and koalas!
Loved seeing the elephants – very majestic creatures
The zoo does a good job of socializing the animals near each other like they would be in the wild
In the walkabout area where you can get up close to the wallabies
Love that the animals have varying terrains and aren’t stuck in one spot
Seeing alligators in Florida > seeing alligators anywhere else!
Fun times at the sting ray touch tank
Good morning Mr. Otter!
The zoo does great things with the rehabilitation of manatees! Didn’t get a great shot, but there are several pools for them to recover in
Pardon the reflection on the picture, but it’s rare that we see koalas awake!
