We were very excited to visit the Cleveland Zoo. This zoo is unique in multiple ways and there’s a lot to love on a visit here. The biggest win for me is there is an exhibit upon immediate entry into the zoo that will blow you away. The layout is a little strange, but it does allow you to see the zoo one section at a time. Check out our Cleveland Zoo Review below for more on what to see when you visit!
Highs:
- Elephant Crossing – This exhibit was voted in the Top 10 in 2015, and is right near the entrance! At 11:15am and 2pm they hold an elephant crossing where they move their five elephants from one side of the exhibit to the other. One side features a feeding machine for just a few quarters. It’s a great way to start and end your visit!
- Australia – They did a great job with their Australia section. The koala exhibit allows you to see the koala straight on, without glass. Also included in this section is a wallaby walkabout, lorikeet feeding, and camel rides.
- Tiger exhibit – Big cats can be hard to see sometimes as they lay down in the shade. This exhibit has walkways for the tigers that go over your head – so seeing a sleeping tiger can be as easy as looking up! When they’re awake, it’s even better!
- Wolf exhibit – Up against the side of the hill is a wolf exhibit where you watch from a lodge. It also includes a beaver and an eagle.
- Giraffe exhibit – The giraffe deeding deck gives you a great view of the giraffes. When it’s not feeding time you have the entire area to peruse.
- Rainforest – This is the only zoo where we’ve seen a building disconnected from the rest of the zoo! Don’t skip it though – you’ll miss a very cool porcupine exhibit with timed rain, and a Gharial exhibit – one of 9 in the country!
Lows:
- Primates, Cats, and Aquatics – I didn’t like anything about this section. It’s a weird collection to put together. It’s also a very long walk from the rest of the zoo. I would skip this part on our next visit.
- Waterfowl Lake – This is in the middle of the zoo, and honestly felt like a waste of space. I’d rather see something like what the Detroit Zoo has in the middle of their zoo, which is a boardwalk with a much more natural feel.
