Randall Oaks Zoo Mom Tips

Posted on August 21, 2019August 21, 2019

Our experts tell you what you need to know in our Randall Oaks Zoo Mom Tips.

  • Parking – This zoo has a small parking lot off of Randall Road – easily visible by their big sign. I’ve never seen it over crowded, but the Randall Oaks complex has additional parking on the back end near the playgrounds.
  • Cost – This zoo is not AZA-accredited, so you don’t get that discount. However, admission is $4.25 (for non-residents), so it’s still pretty reasonable.
  • Strollers – I personally would say leave the stroller at home. This zoo is perfect for walkers up to age four. It’s not very big. However, I did see multiple strollers in the zoo. Perhaps this is due to the large walking path that surrounds the zoo. For the zoo portion though, I would leave the stroller in the car.
  • Bathrooms – The zoo has bathrooms in their “Treehouse” building. We didn’t visit them. Even if you watch the keeper chats and purchase a pony ride and multiple animal feedings, your probably spending 1.5-2 hours maximum at this zoo.
Check out the pony rides during your visit!
  • Feeding Opportunities – The whole point of coming to this zoo is to feed the animals. A feed cup is $1, and there are refill machines for 25 cents all over the zoo. Animals you can feed includes goats, cows, deer, llamas, sheep, and camels. A separate duck feeding occurs at noon for $1.
  • Extras – There are pony rides for $4.75. They also offer (free) keeper chats and animal training demonstrations throughout the day. We were able to see a chameleon, pet a guinea pig, and watch a raccoon training during our visit.
Although meant for ages 5+, there were several toddlers enjoying this playground
  • Playgrounds – Outside the zoo are two playgrounds. The first is directly outside the zoo. This playground targets younger children. The second playground is a short walk down the hill. This playground suits older children (ages 5+). Our three-year-old enjoyed both.
  • Food – The gift shop doubles as a snack shop with a cooler of drinks and some snacks. It’s not enough for a meal, but the park outside has multiple picnic tables or room for a blanket if you bring your own lunch.
