Our experts tell you what you need to know in our Cincinnati Zoo Mom Tips.
- Parking – This zoo has a really big parking lot, with multiple lots. Once you enter, you just drive to the spot they direct you to. Just don’t forget your number and animal!
- Cost – This is a very pricey zoo! AZA reciprocal membership gives you 50% off admission – without it we would have paid $140! The zoo also has $5 discounts for those that live in their county.
- Strollers – This is a large zoo and is hilly, so I would bring a stroller for all kids 5 and under.
- Route – The zoo is set up in a circle, so that you can keep walking and see the entire zoo. We usually see the elephants first, then go to the giraffes and walk counter-clockwise. This allows us to hit the bigger exhibits first and see the Cheetah encounter (see below) at 11am or Noon.
- Bathrooms – The zoo had a lot of bathrooms. None of them stand out as being better than others, but we found one each time we needed one.
- Shows/Encounters – The Cheetah Encounter is a must-see! It is only done twice daily (11am and noon). It lasts about 20-25 mins, and showcases 4-5 different animals, as well as 3 human volunteers. Get there early and sit in the front rows if your kids want to volunteer in the show. There is also a bird show twice in the afternoon that we recommend. You see macaws and other birds, and afterwards they bring the macaws out so you can be very close to them.
- Must-see exhibits – Fiona the Hippo is a must-see! If she is over on the side of the exhibit sleeping, the guests form a line to make sure everyone gets their turn to take a selfie with Fiona! This is also one of two zoos outside of Florida with manatees, so you’ll want to stop by the manatee building as well.
- Feeding Opportunities – Giraffe feedings take place sporadically, and I believe you can feed parakeets in the walk-thru aviary.
- Food – We bought food at the zoo and it was actually really good! However, it was super expensive.
