Our experts give you things you need to know before your visit in our Binder Park Zoo Mom Tips!
- Parking – the parking lot is very big – you shouldn’t have trouble finding a spot.
- Stroller – We would definitely recommend a stroller. The terrain is varied, but you’ll do a lot of walking here, so it is worth it.
- Bathrooms – Use the bathrooms in the front and middle parts of the zoo. In Africa, you will be on a long loop, so you’ll want to use the bathrooms near the cafe.
- Food – This is a pretty small zoo, so we didn’t eat here. They did have areas that served food both near the entrance, and in Africa.
- Take the Tram! – The zoo is set up in two sections: East Zoo, and Wild Africa. When you enter the zoo, you are in East Zoo. To get to Wild Africa, you can either ride the tram or walk. You might wait 15 mins for the tram to get to you, but it is worth it! The walk is over a mile, hilly, and has uneven terrain. We saw many people regretting their decision to walk.
- Be ready for nature – While the zoo is great, and they have a lot of animals, this is probably one of the most scenic zoos we’ve visited – so put on your walking shoes and your comfortable clothes and enjoy this zoo. Even after tramming from East Zoo to Wild Africa, there’s a loop of nearly 1 mile in Africa for you to walk up and down stairs on.
- Ask questions of the zoo staff – We visited this zoo in the fall (and I’m glad we did as the Michigan fall weather was beautiful), but because of that there were many things not open, and some animals not on exhibit. Utilize the zoo staff so you know what’s open and what’s not before engaging in long walks around this zoo.
