This zoo is our favorite! There are so many things that this zoo does right, from the obvious efforts in conservation, to the numerous interactive exhibits they have, the large amounts of space for the animals, and the list goes on. We even made a special trip out here for our 10th wedding anniversary because we enjoyed this zoo so much. I strongly recommend you and your family take a trip to the Columbus Zoo!
Highlights:
- African Savanna – Complete with a giraffe feeding deck and a watering hole where they rotate the animals, the savanna is the place to be; wide open spaces for the animals to roam together; cheetah run demonstrations daily; and a small cafe where you can eat lunch and view the animals through the glass window
- Manatees – one of 2 places north of the state of Florida where you can view manatees, they have a large tank with several inside; no worries though – the goal isn’t for this to be a permanent lodging – the only ones who stay here are the ones not healthy enough to return to the wild
- Australia – The Columbus Zoo’s Australia section is the best we’ve seen, with a kangaroo walkabout where you can mingle amongst kangaroos, a lorikeet house where you can feed lorikeets, and even a pair of koalas
- Polar Bear Exhibit – the polar bear exhibit here is really awesome; there’s both an above and below ground viewing, and the below ground viewing is curved so you can actually have polar bears swimming on top of you; if you’re lucky enough to be down there when one jumps in the water, you’ll have awesome pictures!
- Asia – so as you’ve probably guessed they organized their zoo by regions; the Asia section has a large indoor/outdoor area for the elephants, as well as several different sections for their tigers
Lows:
- I mean, there really aren’t any; this zoo is a lot of walking so be ready for that, otherwise enjoy the day!
