This zoo was the perfect destination for a fall afternoon. The zoo is set on a hill, so there is a bit of walking needed, but it’s also set among a forest which leads to some beautiful scenery. The zoo is a circle loop with exhibits scattered through, as well as some adventurous activities (ZIP Line and High Ropes course to name a few). This zoo is perfect for kids, adults, and everyone in the middle.
Highs:
- Tigers of the Realm – The best tiger exhibit we’ve seen so far! Two areas for the tigers to be in, with great viewing opportunities at both, as well as a path for them to go back and forth between. Set among the forest landscape, this is a great exhibit.
- Wild Trail – We’ve walked among wallabies and kangaroos before, but this exhibit is different being on a hill; the wallabies have a good deal of shade, and because we came during a cooler, wet day we were able to interact with one that was on the trail.
- Treasures Building – This building was the last stop on our visit, but I’m glad we fit it in. It includes monkeys, reptiles, and some other animals, and our kids absolutely loved it!
- Aquarium – This wasn’t the biggest Zoo Aquarium we’ve seen, but they did a good job with it. The penguin exhibit has a nice backdrop, and they have a Northwest Pacific exhibit with a simulated tide.
Lows:
- Really not many to speak of at this zoo, but one I would pick on is their African Savanna. They have an area with bongos and hornbill that they call their Savanna, but this is really just an exhibit. Would like to see them expand this to have an actual Savanna, as many of the other exhibits do offer plenty of room for their animals, whereas this was barely big enough for their 2 bongos.
